A series of three book covers has been redesigned for Oxford University Press ‘A Very Short Introduction’, featuring the titles ‘Coral Reefs’, ‘Insects’, and ‘Plants’. The design concept draws inspiration from encyclopedia to convey the idea of presenting new knowledge to readers. In addition to the covers, a series of laptop stickers were designed as marketing materials as they are budget friendly and can be easily displayed.

I created the illustrations to appeal to a broad age range, with careful consideration given to the consistent use of colour and shape to unify the design across the series. One of the things I enjoyed most in this project was exploring the relationship between typography and illustration. For example, I used illustration silhouettes to creatively fill the negative space within letterforms on each individual book cover. To enhance the visual impact, two special finishes were applied: embossing on the central illustration element and clear foiling on the book titles.
